What is Sabani
In the past, Okinawan boats were made by hollowing out large trees,
but as the number of wood on the island is decreased,
our ancestors began using cedar wood from mainland of Japan to build the boat
with jointing wooden parts to splice wood without using iron nails.
In Taketomi, sabani were used for fishing and transporting supplies to and from neighboring islands.
"Revive Sabani and the ocean culture of Okinawa."
With such a wish,
Shukaji Taketomi Island has started.
